30 is RIGHT around the corner, Excited or NAH??

Image
Have you ever read Joel 2:25? The LORD says, "I will give you back what you lost to the swarming locusts, the hopping locusts, the stripping locusts, and the cutting locusts. It was I who sent this great destroying army against you…" I’m almost exactly one month from my 30 th birthday and like most people getting up there in age, from time to time, I’ve caught myself in that ugly comparison game, that awful “What I should have done by my 30th timeline”. I honestly LOVE where I am in my career but sometimes I do wonder, what if I figured out writing, productions, events and communications was one of my first loves years ago. I daydream often imagining where in the world I would have been right now. Sometimes we compare ourselves to friends; wow at 30 he owns a condo, she owns her own business, he’s building his own house, and she makes a six figure salary. This one is able to take a three week vacation in Dubai and they have a 4 and 2 year old. What the heck have...

I’m in PAIN!!! What’s My Purpose Again ?

Image
Can I be real for a minute? I was supposed to write this blog last night but I had absolutely no motivation. I knew the month of January was supposed to be about purpose, but the enemy had been attacking me lately and honestly lately he had been winning. Last  night I watched Sarah’s Wedding hoping my accomplishment from this would put me back in the mood to write about purpose, but again NOTHING! I had good laugh at my amazing cast but the words weren't there, so I went to sleep. Today I woke up and the bad mood seemed as if it had gotten worse. I’ll be a little more transparent for a minute. Tomorrow makes exactly two years from the day I started my year commitment to not date for a year. I don’t regret one minute of this commitment or the journey it took me on. The amount of lessons I learned, things I saw, lives I got to touch and the purpose I found is simply irreplaceable. However I would be lying if I said I didn’t hope that God would place someone in my life on...

An Answered Prayer - It's a NEW Season

Image
Ever prayed for something for so long and then one day you woke up and realized God had smiled on you. Maybe you and your husband have been praying for a child and one day you finally saw two strips instead of one, maybe your luck in relationships had always seem to be toxic and then one day you realize you were finally walking to the alter to marry your soul mate, maybe you were praying for that dream house or condo and one day you walked into a bank and they smiled and told you, you've been approved. That blessing, that joy, that grace is when you smile the biggest grin because in that moment is when realize that you are FINALLY standing, living, basking in your answered prayer…. I use to talk about three (3) things that I began to beg God for in 2011, I mean beg him to answer and for three years he answered NONE! He remained silent. 2011 was a very hard year for me and I just wanted God to fix it all. However what I had to learn was that God is a God of order and alig...

He does EXIST!!!!!

I remember one time during a book club meeting. I said the next time I date I don’t want the guy to just go to church but I want to date someone who has a real relationship with God. I remember one of the ladies laughed and said “You actually had a man who went to church; you can’t even find that these days, I would be lucky if I could find a man who went to church, but a real relationship with God too, that’s a bit too much to ask for”.  This statement reminded me of Proverbs 18:21: “ The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences”.  We often allow the statistics that tell us 70% of African American women are still single today, scare us. Even an old episode of Oprah quoted a similar statistic and you know everyone is listening to Oprah. Truth is when a lot of single women talk about the dating pool they tend to say that there are no available men they are either gay, married or in jail. It’s a sad state when this is the mindset that ...

I want a REAL relationship with God, but I don’t know where to START??

Image
I could NEVER sing songs like “He wants it ALL” or “All I NEED is you Lord”, the guilt of the song would cripple me, because I honestly thought I couldn’t give God my ALL. When my ALL meant that I couldn’t go to certain places with friends, when giving my ALL went against the relationship I had with my current boyfriend or when giving God my ALL meant reading my bible and going to church when I really didn’t want to. It simply wasn’t true; I didn’t want to ALWAYS please God I wanted to please my flesh. See as long as I could live with half of my leg in the world and half of my leg with God, I was good, right?? Why not, everyone else was doing it; they didn’t seem to be dying from fire and brimstone. So I worshiped on Sundays and did what was pleasing to me during the week, I mean I acknowledged God, I was a morally good person, so I still was going to heaven right?? Little did I know that in God’s eyes I was living worst than a person who just decided to out rightly live a l...

"So God told you he/she was the "ONE", 8 ways to figure out if it was really GOD or just YOU!"

A lot of people at one time or another have said, “I feel like God has told me this is the person I should marry”. Now don’t get me wrong, often times they are people who end up getting married and sometimes being married for the rest of their lives. So I am not here to dispute the fact that you can hear from God. So all of the married people reading this post, I am not saying that God didn't tell you to marry that man or woman that you’re with, so you can cease fire lol, but how many of us can be honest about the fact that you have dated someone in the past or maybe you're dating someone now that you felt God told you was the “ONE” only to realizes months or years later that you were TOTALLY WRONG! A few years ago I was dating a guy for a very short time, and when it didn't work out I was devastated and was convinced the break up would only be for a short while. So while trying to get over the relationship, I tried t...
