A letter to my 21 year old self

Image
As I sat to dinner with my 19 year old godchild and listened to the innocence of this chapter of her life and the wisdom she possessed (that I wish I knew at that age) I was floored. Thinking why I couldn’t have been this focused, why couldn’t I be this wise. Of course she didn’t have it all figured out but she had a lot more figured out than I did at that age. Making mistakes is a part of life so I won’t say that I regret my journey, it is because of my journey that I am who I am today. However I have often thought, especially after this dinner, if I could write a letter to my younger self. What would I say? Duck lips were in style from back then I guess ;) Through the endless journey of self discovery, heartbreaks, and life’s setbacks my words of wisdom would focus on Purpose, Purity and Passion. .. So to the younger version of me, Purpose Choose purpose, stop boxing yourself into society’s version of a “good” career. Lawyers, Doctors and Accountants, although th...

Is Jesus your BAE or NAH?

Image
I remember the first time I heard the word BAE. I’m like ok Kerel, you are getting old, what the heck is BAE??  I knew instantly  I had been single for a grip, because the last time I was in a relationship the  word “BAE” didn’t even exist and like most people I said well when the time is right I will be able to use this slang too (“Well I shall have a Bae as well!”  * In my best stop liking man voice *) At this time I still didn’t even know what the word BAE even stood for, I just was going to be like everyone else and use the term when the time was right. Funny thing about choosing Christ, you weren’t designed to be like everyone else..... When I found out that BAE stood for BEFORE ANYONE ELSE. It took me a while to say whoa, do I really want to speak that over a person in my life. Most people would just say, it’s just a word it’s really not that serious….but it is though. Life and death is in the power of the tongue and if I am going to say that my s...

WHY I AM NOT MARRIED – 10 Responses I finally have to your Question!

Image
It never ceases to amaze me the gumption and nerve of people who love to ask you the most awkward questions ever.  So in case you fall into this category I want you to know The “So Why are you not married?” question is just as annoying as the” Why have you put on so much weight?” question. Like honestly what do you want the person to say? Do you think this question makes for a great talking piece, NEWSFLASH! It doesn’t.! People ask this question as if it is as simple as going to the store and buying some juice. “So how come you aren’t married yet?” “You know I forgot to do that yesterday, it just totally slipped my mind, but tomorrow I’ll swing down to the store, grab me a spouse, find a priest and get hitched, I really don’t know what I was thinking!” Like seriously stop asking such a complex and intimate question, when I highly doubt you are prepared for the real answer. An to be honest I’m tired of staring at you like a dear in headlights because I simply can’...

I kissed my 20’s goodbye: 30 Lessons I learned in 30 years

Image
Like most 30 year old women, I thought I would be at a very different point in my life when I turned 30. However God had different plans for me. The quote that always makes me smile says; “You want to make God laugh, simply tell him your plans” lol. Despite my plans, God had some unexpected yet amazing things in store for me during my 20’s. I received a Bachelors, Masters and began a 2 nd Masters degree. I lived in 3 different countries, traveled to 4 continents and visited 11 different countries. I held a local and national beauty pageant title, I also got the chance to meet and interact with Hollywood actors and producers.   I wrote and directed an award winning play, taking it to Freeport and Nassau and I finally began a career that I love and moved into a condominium on my own all before the age of 30. So when I think about it my 20’s were pretty flicking awesome lol! There were not only accomplishments; there were also moments of love, disappointment and laughter. Howe...
