New Year's Resolution – Kill 'em with Kindness

New Year's Resolution – Kill 'em with Kindness

As I sit and reflect on the last few days of 2013, I am beginning to pray about the things I feel God is leading me to do in 2014. 2013 was a year for growth and change and I believe that 2014 will be a year of harvest and blessing. If you read my first entry in August you will see that one of the things I lacked the last time God blessed me with a season of harvest and blessing was humility. Like I've mentioned before I struggled with selfishness for a long time, so I wanted to make a promise to God to always remain humble and to always find a way to be a blessing to others, especially during a season of harvest.

I have realized that God has blessed me in so many ways and has taught me a lot of things.  Therefore learning how to truly exercise the fruit of the spirit kindness is definitely a goal of mine for 2014. One of the things that inspired this change was watching others give so much of their time, resources and love when they really didn't have to. An airline that makes thousands of dollars, a couple that could have been blessed with tons of wedding gifts and a group of friends that could have spent Christmas morning enjoying lavish gifts, sleep or time with family, all made sacrifices to bless someone with a touch of kindness. You may have heard one or all of these stories before but just in case you haven’t, I hope that their kindness inspires you as much as it inspired me…

West Jet a Canadian based airline made a Christmas miracle happen for more than 250 guests on two Calgary-bound flights. Although this kind gesture may have been a creative scheme brainstormed to increase marketing, it doesn't take away from the fact that one of their main goals was to also embody what the spirit of “giving” really looked like. Companies spend millions of dollars on marketing all of the time and most of the time it brings absolutely no gain toward anyone else other than the company. It was refreshing to see a million dollar company put so much effort and creativity into showing kindness to these wonderful families by bringing them a Christmas miracle..

This next story has been circulated for a few weeks based on the fact that so many of us women are hopeless romantics, we just LOVE a good proposal story! However this time it was such an amazing story because it had so many lessons. The actual proposal was surprisingly the last thing that stood out to me. The fact that Jesus was the center of their relationship, the way that they met, her patience and THAT PRAYER AT THE END, just powerful! Out of all of the awesome lessons shown, I chose to highlight this couple because of what they mentioned at the end of their video. Instead of receiving traditional wedding gifts on their wedding day they did something so selfless, it was unbelievable and really sweet. It’s a 30 minute video that I PROMISE YOU won’t regret watching. It honestly made me think, how many of us would really take “OUR DAY” that we've been waiting so long for and use it to bless someone else with a spirit of kindness. I encourage you to watch below…

The last story I want to highlight happened in our very own “back yard”. We hear stories of famous persons and persons living abroad who offer a great amount of kindness to others all of the time. It was rewarding for me to see fellow Bahamians taking their time and resources to show others kindness. Founder of Pure Purpose Network; Simone Gibson and a few of her friends all sacrificed their time and resources to feed over 110 persons on Christmas morning. They went into the community to deliver gifts and pray with the persons that they met.  A lot of us give during the holiday season, but how many of us take hours on Christmas Day to wake up and be a blessing to others. We usually covet that actual day for food, family and friends. However this group of friends decided that they weren't just going to talk about giving, they were actually going to do something about it.

I hope that you were blessed as much as I was by the kindness shown in all of these stories. If so I urge you to join me by making room on your New Year’s Resolution list for one more item, the commitment to develop the fruit of the spirit, especially the fruit of KINDNESS. God has blessed you so that you can be a blessing to others.

Ephesians 4:32 :And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Hope that you will continue to join me in 2014 as we continue to explore the Fruit of the Spirit!
